Aerofex, a company out of California, just released pictures and information about this new product of theirs It's damned exciting.

P.2 - Chemistry Is More Fun When You're SETTING THINGS ON FIRE!
------
Part 2: Second batch of 4 explosive videos.
A recap:
Periodic Videos (referring to the Periodic Table of Elements) is a group of scientists from the University of Nottingham with a huge catalog of juicy goodies.
They just released a few 20-30 second chemistry videos showing how mixing elements and solutions can SET THINGS ON FIRE! I have an inkling they do this more for fun than science.
"Magnesium Burns in Carbon Dioxide"
"Hypergolic Reaction"
"Flourine Gas and Sulfur"
s
"Diethyl Zinc Ignites in Air"

Who Doesn't Love Shark Week! - A Remix
------
I'm a big fan of Symphony of Science, always have been.
John's newest project is an incredibly fun musical piece on Shark Week. It's catchy, there's his consistently great audio production, and he chose wonderful clips for its content.

The Crescent Nebula
------
I was over at NASA's website today and I found a stunning image that I just HAD to share with all of you. this is The Crescent Nebula, NGC6888
NASA describes it as "a cosmic bubble about 25 light-years across, blown by winds from its central, bright, massive star."

DARPA's Amphibious CAAT Trumps Hovercrafts
------
Man, I love DARPA.
This 4 ton MONSTER, the CAAT (Captive Air Amphibious Transporter) makes a hovercraft look like a horse and buggy.
It's such a simple idea that I can barely believe it works so well. It's the basic idea of a tank with "pontoon" treads. Simple as that. Now I'm sure there's a heck of a lot more involved in the research, development, and engineering, but the basic idea is SO BASIC it blows my mind.
Check this big guy out.
