Sun That Can Be Mapped to a Sphere - Akin to a Flat Map of Earth vs a Globe

------
You got your flat map of the world:

And then there's the circular globe wel all know:

Here's the cool part, NASA's new data: this is a flat view of the sun, able to be mapped to a sphere.

And then the regular 3d version of the sun we know so well:

ABOUT THE VIDEO:
From NASA:
"This is a sequence of 4Kx2K images, cylindrical-equidistant projection, of the Sun that can be mapped to a sphere. The sequence was assembled by combining 304 Ã…ngstrom (extreme ultraviolet wavelength) images from STEREO-A, STEREO-B, and the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). The series covers the time frame shortly after the STEREO spacecraft moved into a position where they had a complete view of the side of the Sun not visible from the Earth."
