ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array in Chile has premiered its first photograph, this stunning picture of two galaxies merging.
Astronomer Mark McKinnon on ALMA: “ALMA’s test views of the Antennae show us star-forming regions on a level of detail that no other telescope on Earth or in space has attained.”
When I first saw this, I didn't believe that it was a photograph. This array is going to be spitting out quite a lot of beauty in the years to come!
